The story of Freddy the cricket

Freddy the Cricket

Poor little Freddy the cricket somehow managed to find his way into a house hold of 5 children. Child Three ran to her mother exclaiming that there was a bug on the wall. Sure enough the mother proceeded to tell her it was a cricket and to leave the cricket be. Child One came bounding down the stairs to see the cricket creature and to her excitement wanted to try and catch him. Because of all the commotion of Child One wanting to capture the cricket, Child Two was now intrigued by helping her accomplish this task. "What does cricket eat", Child One asks? "Does it eat grass" she asks her mother? "Yes, she replies" as she is getting lunches ready for the school day, completely oblivious to what is going on around her.

Child One then tells Child Two to go retrieve grass from the backyard in a container she hands him. Mother tells them to leave the cricket alone  and that she does not want grass in the house (or the bowl). Mother goes upstairs to throw in a load of laundry and come to find the downstairs in disarray. As she asks why the mess they explain that the dog was after Freddy.  Mother says again to clean up and to leave the cricket alone (they can't find the cricket anyway) when Mother finds the cricket on the curtain next to the highchair, she mistakenly tells the kids she found the cricket, but to leave it alone and get their shoes on it is time to leave for school.

As she assists the two younger children in getting their shoes on,  Child One, Two and Three decide to protect the cricket by barracading it to a certain area around the highchair so the dog supposedly can't get it while they are gone to school. With grass and water on the highchair for the cricket and the gate and chairs blocking the dog's entrance, they proceed to the car for school.

While in the car, Child One proceeds to tell Mother to make sure the cricket goes only in the food dish or water dish and not to let Zeus break the barracade. She explains that although she won't let Zeus break the barracade that she would be getting rid of the cricket upon returning home. Child Two yells. "She is going to kill him"  She says, "yes, I might do that or I might just move him outside where he belongs." "Don't hurt him they all plead!"

Upon dropping the children off at school. Mother comes in to find the curtain on the floor with rod. The cricket food bowl and water bowl without a cricket and no cricket to be found. Upon asking the dog, "what he did with the cricket" she discovers the cricket in the dog water bowl. Well the kids did say only let him in the "food and water" bowls. She didn't say it couldn't be the dog bowls, but mother calmly picks up the dog water bowl and realizes that Freddy is indeed still alive and therefore puts him outside where he belongs. Hopefully Child One, Two and Three will appreciate that Mother saved Freddy's life from the dog!
