Vacation - Part 2 - The Beach

We had a great time in California this past month, it was nice to drive past some of my old mission areas (Temecula, Corona, and Perris) and so much more fun playing in my brother and sister -in- law's mission(yes they officially met for the first time on their mission but sparks didnt' fly until close to a year after they had returned so give them some slack already) at Legoland and the beach. We stayed in Oceanside which is another area of their mission. But needless to say we had a great time. This is one vacation that I felt we were not constantly fighting with the kids about everything and rarely lost our patience with them. Kate was an absolute doll the entire trip and never complained but she did shed a little tears when she found out she couldn't ride one of the rides. But after a small walk and finding a new ride to ride when the others came back off the one she couldn't ride she was as happy as a clam.
I will say Legoland food left something to be desired but we just had a great time. The kids desperately wanted to go to the beach, but it had been overcast Friday and Saturday was a bit cooler after that so after Legoland it was a little too chilly to get into the water so we just rolled up our pants and walked out there for about an hour total before the tide took Noah down and scared Kate half to death. We still walked out of their soaked.

Our sandy feet (minus Sophia's)

Kate avoiding the water

Natali and Noah loving the tide rushing over their feet

Making footprints in the sand and writing their names that kept getting washed away by the tide.

Nathan managed to get Sophia asleep in a matter of minutes

Me struggling to get Sophia asleep with Natali and Noah. Kate refused to be in the picture!

It was also my birthday weekend so following the beach and quickly giving the kids a bath and us a shower we ventured out to find somewhere to go for my birthday dinner. Nathan was wanting to find somewhere new maybe on the beach to go but after looking over everything it was too "college town" loud, or a pub where it was just not appropriate (in my opinion) to take our children. It was getting late and Nathan wanted it to be special for me and so asked what I was in the mood for or what I wanted...I said, honestly I wish we just knew where there was a Claim Jumper or something instead of driving all over looking for something. So he whips out his nifty phone with GPS and asks his phone "find the nearest claim jumper" and off we went. I am really glad we went there in the end. Plus for my birthday dessert I got their awesome chocolate chip calzone! YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The next morning we traveled home on my birthday where we hit bad traffic because a Las Vegas teenager decided to hit a police officer (who had pulled over someone for a traffic violation) killing the officer and shutting down the entire freeway (at least northbound) we found out later why but it was touch and go the entire way and it was frustrating to say the least. (at least I wasnt' driving) so although the weekend was great the drive home on my birthday...(not so great). That was our trip in a nutshell.
Now when we going back?!!
